PUBLIC EDUCATION

Our corporate objectives include these:
• To educate the public, professionals, and parents on the causes, prevention and treatment of brain injury, and the rehabilitation of brain injured person.
• To promote better community understanding of brain injury with a view to encouraging respect for the rights and dignity of person who have been brain injured.
To address our objectives, we provide education on the latest topics related to brain injury to health care professionals, educational community and students.


We offer several programs.
• For students from grades 6 to 8 and another for grades 9 to 12
We offer the STAR program. This stands for Stop, Tell, get Assessed and Rest. Teachers, coaches and principals can request this program for their school or classes.


• For healthcare staff, college/university students in health care professions and volunteers in health care facilities
We offer a program that instructs about the basic anatomy of the brain and a brain injury, how injuries affect the brain, the symptoms of a brain injury, the emotional/social/physical changes arising from a brain injury, how to manage symptoms and about the BIAWE programs and services.

• For teachers and coaches
Starting in March 2024 we will be offering instructional sessions about the brain and brain injury (including concussions), return to work and play protocols and working with children with a brain injury in the school setting.
